christmas

All I want for Christmas is ………

No aches and pains!!! OK so we can’t promise miracles but here at Heale’s Chiropractic Clinics the Chiropractic elves have been making a list and checking it twice to make sure your Christmas is as pain free as possible!

The festive season is fraught with all sorts of opportunities to damage your spine – so check out these tips and enjoy a happy and healthy Christmas!

Let the courier company take the strain!

Do as much online shopping as you can – your back will thank you for it! However, if you do need to brave the shops – be prepared – make a list with some alternatives in case you can’t find exactly what you need.

Walking slowly and stopping to browse shop windows makes your body tired as it is relying on your ligaments to support you and is likely to leave you aching, so walk with purpose and avoid distractions!

Savvy Parking

Parking spaces are at a premium this time of the year. Try to shop in the least busy times so that you can get a parking space close to the shops. Make several trips to the car to avoid overburdening yourself with items. Make sure that you distribute the weight of the bags evenly on both sides.

Wrap up – not the presents!

It may seem obvious but if the weather is cold, damp, or windy you may be more vulnerable to straining your muscles – so layer up, if you get too hot, you can always take a layer off!

Wrap up – yes, the presents!

If you find wrapping presents a painful chore, try to break it up into smaller sessions, rather than sitting for hours on end in one mammoth session! Alternatively use gift bags or coerce someone into helping you!

Break out!

It is important to take regular breaks when either decorating or when cooking! Staying on your feet for long hours at a time can wreak havoc on your back. Try to spread the work out as much as possible and do as much prep work ahead of time as you can!

Alternatively get the whole family involved and assign specific dishes for others to bring – they can help with the serving and washing up as well!

Don’t stress at Christmas!

One of the best ways to manage those annoying stress levels is to get some fresh air – weather allowing.  Make time to go outside for a walk and a stretch. These types of activities give you both time away from stressful environments and will help your body to relax. Often we tend to be less active around the festive season and sitting around for hours on end will do your back no favours!

Try to break all your Christmas tasks down into smaller more manageable ones and watch the tress disappear!

The perfect tip for Christmas!

There is one more way to de-stress this Christmas, treat yourself to a relaxing massage with one of our highly qualified and professional massage therapists. Relax and let them soothe any aches and pains or stress away!

We wish you all the best for the festive season and a healthy and happy 2024!
