Quite often people think of chiropractic as being suitable only for adults of mid age range i.e. from 18 – 60. However this is a common misunderstanding as chiropractic for all ages including teenagers, children and even new-borns to people in their 90’s and beyond!
Lets start at the beginning of Chiropractic for all ages
Sometimes infants can get into awkward positions in the womb and this can have an impact on the muscles, also affecting this can be whether the baby is breech or not and how traumatic the birth is. It can all cause issues with the joints and muscles and the child may seem irritable for example when feeding as it may be uncomfortable for them to turn into a certain direction and they may favour one breast over the other because of this. It is a good idea to have the child’s musculoskeletal system assessed as it may be an issue that with a few simple treatments could make life a lot easier on both you and the baby.
There are also lots of issues with children and teenagers to do with the spine and other joints such as the hips that can affect their posture and can especially become a problem when they start to hit the growth spurt. Again a chiropractic assessment can help to identify said problems and help them through a potentially painful few years when it can be so easily avoided. So before you put it down to just ‘growing pains’ get an expert to have a look and let them tell you what it is.
On a quick note for the 18 – 60 age range, quite a lot of people when they experience pain wait for it to settle down before going to seek chiropractic… Don’t! The sooner you get the problem looked at the sooner it will get better and understand that the chiropractor knows that you are in pain and that we are very sympathetic towards it and at the end of the day we are here to help, the longer you leave it the longer it will take to get better!
Older patients can suffer from a range of musculoskeletal issues, not just from arthritis but from general age related degeneration. Here chiropractic can help mobilise the joints that tend to gradually stiffen up and in later life mobility is priceless! We understand that people at that age are fragile so the treatments are gentle but can be very effective and lead to an increased quality of life when having that quality matters the most.
